The Consul General

William Elliott

William Elliott has been British Consul-General in St Petersburg since November, 2006. WILLIAM ELLIOTT, the Consul General of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Saint Petersburg

He was born in 1968 and grew up in the UK, Sierra Leone and the USA. He studied English Literature at the University of York, and after graduation he taught at universities in Poland and Georgia. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1994. He has been posted to Warsaw (1996-9), Kabul (2001-2) and Tallinn (2002-6). His work for the FCO has covered a variety of issues - EU enlargement, security policy, Trade and Investment, and resource management.

In his spare time he enjoys literature (particularly English and Russian), history (UK, Europe and South Asia), cooking and cricket.

He is married, with two children.
